Picture of the Month

Students from Secaucus elementary schools stand in line to see a Coast Guard 26' Aids to Navigation boat. This boat, along with other static displays, including an HH-65 (Dolphin) search & rescue helicopter were on display at Secaucus High School in Secaucus, NJ on June 17, 2009 for a "Partners in Education" event sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

This event was the largest public outreach program to date between the active duty Coast Guard and the Auxiliary. Over 2200 students attended the event and local VFW, Police, and Fire Departments participated as well. This extremely successful program teaches students about boating safety and the many different roles of the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Important New Jersey Boating Regulation Information

On January 9, 2006, the New Jersey State Legislature passed sweeping changes to the state's boating safety law, making New Jersey's education law among the most stringent in the nation.

New regulations have been approved that expand the requirements for boaters to have taken a boating safety course.

As of June 1, 2009, ALL persons MUST have taken an approved boating safety course and possess a Boating Safety Certificate to operate ANY registered power vessel over 12' long on New Jersey tidal or inland waters. ALL persons operating a personal watercraft MUST also have taken a boating safety course and possess a Boating Safety Certificate.
