Calling all Aux-Com  The USCG Auxiliary has been using with success the ICOM IC-F121 VHF Radio. This radio has the capability through Software Programming the ability to operate on both the conventional VHF Marine Frequencies, the AuxNet Frequencies and Weather Frequencies.  This is an ideal radio for Land Mobile as well as Fixed Land ( with optional suitable Power Supply ) There is also attractive pricing through the GSA Pricing schedule.  For more information contact our SO-CM, John Nashmy.

And more about Aux-Com - We need volunteers to tow the District Communications Trailer - Trucks, Pick-Ups, SUVs, Mini-Vans (well maybe not mini-vans) are needed!  Contact Stan Catalina, Task Force Coordinator, if you are interested in working with our Commodore in critical emergencies and drills. Aux-Com Qualified preferred.

FORM 7030 has changed - well - not really the form - but the codes!  Print out all the pages of the 7030 Form and use the new codes - the old ones are no longer valid!

New Jersey to institute (very shortly) a program they call "BICC" -- Boating instructor Compliance Check.  The intent of BICC is to monitor the quality of instruction being presented to the boaters of NJ.  The State will be using both uniformed and at times, non-uniformed personnel to sit in as a student and take the basic boating course.  This all stems from comments received from previous students who made comments that the instruction they received has not been "up to par".  [Source  DIRAUX: 2 Aug 2007]

Response from our DSO:

As the DSO-PE of the 1st Southern District, I tell you now and I tell you honestly that I welcome these inspections. In my 15 years membership in the Auxiliary, I have both attended and participated in countless numbers of PE courses and I have never failed to come away impressed with both the level of professionalism and the dedication to the task at hand, exhibited by our instructors.  Long before any State required boater education as a prerequisite to the privilege of operating a boat or jet ski on their waters, the Auxiliary was hard at work providing a safer environment for the recreational boating public through education.  Never forget that boater education is not just an activity in which we participate; it is a concept that we largely invented.  The quality of our teaching materials, including books and audiovisual presentations, are the best available.  And so are our instructors!

My message to each of you today is, KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING but stay alert to any changes in State law that require modifications to your teaching times or subject matter.  In this post 911 era, you have added additional material involving local knowledge, marine domain awareness and homeland security.  Continue to do so.  Most of all, continue to wear your uniforms properly and proudly at your presentations.  We are the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and for the countless tens of thousands of students who have passed through our classrooms over the decades, we ARE boating safety.

Staff Officers: Please distribute this email to every IT teaching PE courses in New Jersey.

The new electronic testing Center is now avilable for use by Auxiliary members seeking qualification in a wide range of mission areas. This "eTesting" Center is available at http://ntc.cgaux.org.

Every Auxiliarist already has an account on the new National Testing Center, but it must be activated by following the directions available at the new site. As part of our effort to reduce the complexity of our electronic resources, activation of your account on the National Testing Center will rely on information from your eDirectory account. If you have any difficulty, user support is available at ntchelp@auxtdept.org. If you need a password or have your password reset go to the new National Testing Center site for a new or lost password. [Source CHDRAUX-L: 6 August 2007]
